September @ Amistad
08/28/11

Greetings Amistad --

Here are tentative plans for September Fridays @ Amistad (check the website for updates.)

Friday, September 2 -- Wars, recession, money problems, political nastiness, earthquakes and hurricanes and a local wildfire -- somehow it seems we must be in a season of bad things.  On this first Friday of September we'll share our Agape Meal, then consider Jesus' words about the lilies of the field (with a little help from Sidney Poitier!)  A simple time to be together, take comfort and strength from each other and from God's abiding love.

Friday, September 9 --  We'll mark the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 with a look at Jesus' words from the Sermon on the Mount, "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)  Is this possible in today's world?  and if so, how on earth do we manage it?

Friday, September 16 -- We'll go on-the-road to the Vacaville Museum for their Gashora Art Project reception and exhibit.  I'm forwarding to you an email from the Museum with details.  Amistad will pay the $10 ticket price for all who want to attend, then you can put in as much or as little as you can.  We'll gather at 6:00 at the Museum -- there will be drinks (and maybe nibbles?) but NO supper, so eat before you come or after you get home!

Friday, September 23 --  We'll mark the Autumnal Equinox by having our Agape Meal supper outside on the deck (if the weather is agreeable) and then considering our old friends the Light and the Dark.

Friday, September 30 --  Tie-dye take 2!!  We still have some more t-shirts and some more dye, so we'll tie-dye the shirts and get them ready to pack in the Balikbayan Box for the kids in Cebu!

Notes on upcoming opportunities

September blessings and hope to all!
